Monks to don shrouds and head for Ram Setu
Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Aug 2 (UNI) Monks of Chhattisgarh's various sects will don shrouds and head south on August 26 with a ''do-or-die resolve'' for protecting the Palk Strait's Ram Setu from demolition.
''At a two-day Dharma Sansad that concluded on July 26, seers resolved to defend the Setu,'' the Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samaj Samiti's Chhattisgarh unit Convenor Swami Anusuiyadas told UNI here today.
Claiming that the Samaj began a pan-Chhattisgarh public awakening drive from Ambikapur yesterday, he urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to safeguard Hindu sentiments by shifting the Setusamudram Project to alternative waterways suggested by scientists.
''The Samaj is not against the project but opposes the Centre's adamant attitude vis-a-vis demolition,'' the godman added.
