Media should play positive role for public welfare: CM

Jabalpur, Aug 2 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the government and the Fourth Estate both had the responsibility of exposing social hypocrisy besides attempting to ensure justice for impoverished farmers, women and indeed every oppressed person.

Mr Chouhan, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 21st anniversary of the Hindi newspaper 'Dainik Bhaskar', Jabalpur, last evening, said, ''media have to ensure that no untrue news or advertisement reaches people.'' The function was chaired by Assembly Speaker Ishwardas Rohani while Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi was special guest.

Mayor Susheela Singh and Advocate V Tankha were among those present.

Senior journalist Rahul Dev and noted litterateur Chitra Mudgal were the main speakers.

Mr Rohani said that it was expected that media encouraged people doing good work in society besides taking up responsibility for attracting intellectuals towards politics.
