Media should play positive role for public welfare: Chouhan

Jabalpur, Aug 2 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that the government and the Fourth Estate both had the responsibility of exposing social hypocrisy besides attempting to ensure justice for impoverished farmers, women and indeed every oppressed person.

Mr Chouhan, while addressing the inaugural ceremony of 21st anniversary of Hindi newspaper Dainik Bhaskar, Jabalpur, last night, said media has to ensure that no untrue news or advertisement reached people.

The function was chaired by Vidhan Sabha Speaker Ishwardas Rohani, while Health Minister Ajay Vishnoi was special guest.

Mayor Sushila Singh and advocate Vivekrishna Tankha were present.

Senior journalist Rahul Dev and Prasar Bhart Board member and noted litterateur Chitra Mudgal were present as main speakers at the function.

Mr Rohani said it was expected that media encouraged people doing good work in society besides taking up responsibility for attracting intellectuals towards politics.

He said newspapers and electronic media should understand the need and choice of every person.
