Mad dog killed by villagers

Srikakulam, Aug 2 (UNI) A mad dog which had bitten 72 people in Rajam and surrounding area in Srikakulam district was killed by the villagers in Anandapuram village today.

The number of cases in the Rajam area following the attack by the dog rose to 72 today. The victims included 17 children, according to Municipal Commissioner B V Ramana Murthy.

Rajam Municipal Commissioner B V Ramana Murthy said while 34 cases were reported yesterday, the number rose by 38 today.

Cases of rabies were also reported in the neighbouring areas like Antakapalli, Sarathi, Pogiri, Palakhandyam, Dolapet and Mettavalasa villages.

Sufficient numbers of rabies vaccine were also being brought to Rajam on emergency basis from other areas.

The victims were undergoing treatment at Rajam government hospital.
