LF urges newspaper hawkers to retrain from strike
Kolkata, Aug 2 (UNI) Left Front chairman Biman Bose today urged the newspaper hawkers unions to retrain from the August 8 CITU-sponsored countrywide 24-hour strike.
The Left parties were supporting the CITU-sponsored strike, called to highlight their 15-point charter of demands.
The newspaper hawkers unions also supported the strike.
'' But it is true that the hawkers are not the direct staff of the newspapers and it will not be possible to deliver papers without the hawkers, '' Mr Bose said in a statement here.
''It is known that newspapers are included in the essential services and the hawkers have not participated in the strike earlier. But in the present perspective, we are appealing to the hawkers unions to extend support to the strike but restrain the hawkers from participating in it,'' he added.
This was for the first time that all the newspaper hawkers unions and security personnel of the ATMs, markets and towers would participate in the strike.
