Itanagar, Aug 2 (UNI) Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu today said his government has decided to purchase medicines directly from the manufacturers to ensure proper supply of medicines at cheaper prices.

Speaking to media persons here, the chief minister announced the decision of purchasing medicines directly from the manufactueres rather than from the agents.

The chief minister was addressing the flagging off ceremony of two ambulances, one each for Primary Health Centre at Deed Neelam in Lower Subansiri district and Gensi in West Siang district of Voluntary Health Association of India(VHAI).

He expressed hopes that it would improve the health care sector, adding, ''We need to address the problem of the health sector properly and ensure the medicines reaches to the target.'' Mr Khandu also called for cooperation from the people of all sections of the society to revamp the health sector in true sense.

Expressing displeasure of medical officers stationing themselves at district headquarters on the pretext or with undue help from leaders, Mr Khandu said they had to stay in their place of posting.

Ajay K Tripathy, Project Manager, VHAI, informed that the voluntary organisation is managing five Primary Health Centres in the State since January 2006 under National Rural Health Mission (NHRM) as Public Private Participation(PPP).

Information and Public Relation Minister Lombo Tayeng, legislators including Jomde Kena and Kipa Babu, Secretary Health Tape Bagra and other high officials were present during the occasion.
