Indefinite bandh crippled trading activities

Bangalore, Aug 02 (UNI) The trading activities of all the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committees (APMC) in the state have crippled for the second day as the indefinite trade bandh in protest against amendment to the APMC act was entered for the second day today.

According to Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FKCCI) sources the bandh which was being observed by all the APMC's in the state was total and would intensify further to press the state government to withdraw the controversial amendment to the APMC Act.

The FKCCI President Mr S S Patil informed UNI that there will be no change in their indefinite trade bandh till the government accede their demands. He said that apart from Trade associations various farmers associations, labour organisations also extended their support to the Bandh as the amended act to APMC was retrograde and hurt the interests of the state farmers.

According to Gulbarga reports the response to the bandh call was total and the Marketing yard in the city was closed. The traders who downed their shutters hold a protest meeting infront of the APMC office and criticised the state government for bringing amendment to APMC Act.

The bandh was also total and due to its impact the prices of all the essential commodities increased including that of foodgrains, vegetables and fruits in Mysore. Over 450 commission agents and another 2000 labourers were participating in the indefinite trade bandh.

The APMC's in Belgaum, Bijapur, Koppal, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Tumkur and Hassan also participating in the indefinite trade bandh resulting in crippling of trade activities in the entire state.
