Ahmedabad, Aug 2 (UNI) Starting next year, the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, will open its newly-launched one-year Post Graduate Programme in Public Management and Policy (PGP-PMP) to candidates who have legislative and ministerial experience.

The PGP-PMP was launched in April 2007 for persons with significant work experience who can become risk-taking leader-managers. The first batch has 33 participants of whom 12 are sponsored by various government departments.

IIMA Director Dr Bakul H Dholakia, while speaking to reporters here today, said from next year, the programme will be opened to candidates with legislative and ministerial experience.

The candidates will have to be at least 27 years old and have at least one year's experience as minister at the Central level or as a Member of Parliament, or at least two years experience as minister at the state level or as MLA, or should have served local bodies for at least five years.

Dr Dholakia said the programme is unique as it blends the executive management programme and the public management programme for those participants who desire to take on senior management positions in public management and policy.

Apart from core management, the programme offers specialisation to those in local bodies such as financial regulation, infrastructure development, management of international organizations, public enterprise management, and technology management.

Meanwhile, Dr Dholakia informed that participants in the first batch will shortly be going abroad on an international attachment/exchange to some of the leading schools in public management and policy like University of Geneva Lyndon Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas at Austin, The Georgetown Public Policy Institute, The H John Heinz III School of Public Policy and Management, and Carnegie Mellon University.

Prof Sebastian Morris, chairperson for the programme, informed that the fee for the intensive one-year course is Rs 12 lakh per participant, and it is inclusive of the airfare to send the participant for international attachments, visa fee, tuition fee, cost of books, materials and even pocket expenses.
