HP picks IITG for technology grant
Guwahati, Aug 02 (UNI) The Hewlitt-Packard today announced that IIT, Guwahati (IIT-G), has been awarded a technology for teaching grant to transform the way subjects are taught on its campus.
Adressing the mediapersons here, IIT-G Director Prof Gautam Barua said the institute would receive about US$ 75,000 worth of technology such as HP tablet PCs, external storage and optical drives, wireless networking cards and printers.
The HP technology had been presented to 13 universities in the Asia Pacific and Japan region. These universities would help HP to create technology accessible to everyone as a means to learn and work.
The winners of the HP Technology for teaching grant initiative had submitted proposals for projects to demonstrate how HP mobile technology could be integrated for redesigning Mathematics, Science and Engineering.
It would also help IIT-G establish a mobile learning centre, where students could access content using hand-held computers. The centre would have a portal and digital library.
Through an online portal, students would have centralised access to lecture notes, discussion forum and online quizzes, Prof Barua said.
IIT-G's submission was reviewed by a panel of representatives from the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) and mobile technology experts from HP.
The 13 winning universities would have a chance to meet and exchange ideas with their peers at the annual worldwide HP technology for teaching higher Education conference in 2008.
''IIT-G has successfully demonstrated how HP mobile technology can be integrated to redesign key courses to enhance teaching and student learning'', Prof Barua added.
