Haryana varsity to have Cambridge sub-centre
Khanpur Kalan (Sonepat), Aug 2 (UNI) Haryana today became the first state in the country to have a sub-centre of the Cambridge University for certification in English language proficiency.
The British Council and North India's first women university, Bhagat Phool Singh Mahila Vishwavidyalaya, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to offer Business English Certificate (BEC) and Teaching Knowledge Test (TKT) from the University of Cambridge to the students of the Mahila Vishwavidyalaya.
The MoU was signed by the Minister-Cultural Affairs British Council Division, British High Commission, Rod Pryde on behalf of the British Council.
Vice Chancellor Anuradha Gupta signed on behalf of the Women University in the presence of Haryana Governor A R Kidwai and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda in the university campus.
The Governor and the Chief Minister congratulated the representatives of the British Council and Bhagat Phool Singh Women University for setting a new trend to improve the language skills of students. They also inaugurated language labs.
Ms Anuradha Gupta said that the objective to sign the MoU was to provide an opportunity to the students of the university to develop their business English and teaching knowledge proficiency thereby meeting requirement of the industry through BEC and TKT from University of Cambridge.
She said that the British Council would work with Bhagat Phool Singh Women University as the lead partner in the state to offer and promote Cambridge qualifications like BEC and TKT.
Mrs Gupta said the university had implemented a mega project to impart free of cost lab based language training in spoken English, communication skills and foreign languages to all the University students.
