Genesis flags off new initiatives with 'Born Free'

Kolkata, Aug 2 (UNI) Genesis Art Gallery here has come alive with 'Born Free,' an art Exhibition showcasing 25 paintings of artists from across the country to commemorate 60 glorious years of free India.

Genesis art gallery, established in 1985, has grown to become one of the most consistent, regular and reliable galleries over a period of more than two decades.

''Born Free art exhibition is the first in a series of initiatives to promote and popularise art and young talent,'' said Director of Genesis Art Gallery Isha Mody yesterday.

In all these years, it has showcased a divergent collection of contemporary Indian art, ranging from solo shows of major artists such as Ram Kinker Baij, Manik Lal Bandopadhyaya, Isha Mohammed, Robin Mondal, Suhas Roy, Gosto Kumar, Thomas Easley and others.

Through its camps and group shows, the gallery had invited important artists from other centres of Indian and South Asian Art to Kolkata like Navjot, Vasundhra Tiwari, Jatin Das, Jagdish Chander, Suresh Choudhary, Laxma Goud, to name a few.

''Genesis has always had a rich tradition of believing in and promoting new talent, besides maintaining a meaningful concern for the veteran artists,'' she pointed out adding, ''Now the time has come to initiate efforts to showcase Indian talent in the international art arena.'' Works of prominent painters like Ajay De, Bratin Khan, Gautam Mukherjee, Nitya Kundu, Partha Bhattacharjee, Rameshwar singh, Wasim Kapoor and the like were the main attractions of the gallery.

The medium that the young artists applied included oil and acrylic, oil on canvas, water colour, charcoal pastel on paper and others.

The Gallery saw dignified visitors like Mr Shuvaprasanna.

Visitors, hailing largely from the art and painting field, acknowledged his ''star attraction'' in the exhibition.

Commenting on further initiative in this direction, Ms Mody said, ''Today we are also launching our online e-commerce art gallery - www.genesisartgallery.in - that will open up yet another window of opportunity for many artists to sell their work online and reach out to a global clientele.'' The ''Born Free'' exhibition, that flagged off yesterday, would last till August 25, wherein young emerging talents would be allowed to display their art pieces free of cost for one week.
