Gang of car inter-state thieves busted in Punjab

Phagwara, Aug 2 (UNI) Police today burst an inter-state gang of vehicle thieves by nabbing its three members and recovering six stolen cars from their possession.

SSP Kapurthla Rakesh Aggarwal told media persons here today that the gang members operated in other states as well and had brought stolen vehicles from Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan to Punjab to sell them on higher rates with fake documents.

The gang leader Jasbir Singh alias Jassi had contested assembly election as independent candidate from Beas. The other arrested members were identified as Bhupinder Singh alias Bhinda of Wadhala Kalan and Swaranjit Singh alias of village Bhullar of Beas district, he said.

SSP Aggarwal said preliminary interrogation revealed that Gulzar Singh alias Dhillon of Tarn Taran district led the gang operations outside the Punjab state.

The gang members usually snatched the vehicles on pistol points from various parts of the state and prepared fake registration certificates of the vehicles with the help of another gang member Randhir Singh alias Dhira posted in the SDM's office at Baba Bakala, the SSP said.

The vehicles stolen in Punjab were sold mainly in Uttar Pardesh.

The recovered stolen six cars included one Tata Safari, three Indigo cars, one Indica car and one Scorpio jeep, Mr Aggarwal said.

Several more disclosures were expected and special teams had been dispatched to nab the remaining gang members, he said.
