Farmers to meet Mayawati over fake land cases
Lucknow, Aug 2 (UNI) Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) today accused the Mayawati-led Uttar Pradesh government of harassing farmers by plotting fake cases against them and warned of an agitation on the issue.
BKU spokesperson Rakesh Tikait told UNI that the state government was framing the union members in illegal land possession cases.
He claimed Chief Minister Mayawati was dancing to the tunes of state agriculture minister Yograj Singh, who was harassing the farmers.
A delegation of union members would soon meet the CM regarding the same, he added.
Mr Tikait said the state government was not concerned about the farmers' payment owed by sugarmills and was busy in distracting public from their basic problems.
He demanded the release of his associates lodged at Sultanpur jail and other places, besides withdrawal of cases against them.
