Dream girl's concern over protection of bear

Agra, Aug 2 (UNI) Bollywood's 'dream girl' and Member of Parliament Hema Malini has expressed her concern over the dismal situation of Indian bears, who were sent to Pakistan.

Raising her voice for the protection of wild life, the cinestar said ''the Indian bears sent to Pakistan few days back, were ill treated by the elite class for their entertainment.'' ''The issue had raised a massive protest in the country. I am concerned over the protection of animals,'' the actor added.

Hema met the development officer of the city and donated Rs 2 lakh for protection of bears to the protection house of Keetham.

About 211 bears are lodged in this house, which has a maximum capacity of 120.

Taking serious note on the issue, former union Environment and Forest minister Menaka Gandhi visited the place and directed the officers for the upkeep of bears.

Besides, she had urged the central government to take necessary steps in this direction.
