Anglo-French Textile employees arrested

Puducherry, Aug 2 (UNI) As many as 494 workers of the government owned Anglo-French Textile mills, including 18 women members of the Mill Protection Committee from all trade unions were arrested when they attempted to picket the Legislative Assembly here.

The protestors demanded provision of central DA, setting up of a high level committee to look into the affairs of the mill as announced by the Chief Minister on the floor of the Assembly and an inquiry into the alleged corruption in the mill.

They took out a procession from the Singaravelar statue to the Legislative Assembly.

However, when the procession reached the Raja theatre junction, police prevented them, following which they resorted to road roko and courted arrest.
