K'taka: 163 Urban Local Bodies' election on Aug 30
Bangalore, Aug 2: Election to 163 Urban Local Bodies would be held on August 30, Karnataka State Election Commissioner M R Hegde announced today.
Talking to newsmen here he said that in all 43,56,167 voters, including 21,55,477 women, would exercise their franchise in the elections to be held for 3593 wards in 27 City Muncipal Council, 76 Town Muncipality and 60 Town Panchayats.
Stating that the code of conduct would come into force with immediate effect, Mr Hegde clarified that however, it would not affect the ongoing relief works to be under due to drought or floods.
He said that of the total 5,099 polling stations, 1,856 have been identified as sensitive and 2,050 as hypersensitive.
He said that the nominations would open on August 8, with last date for filing being August 16. Scrutiny of nominations would be taken up on August 17 and August 20 is the last date for withdrawal.
He said that for the first time the Prevention of Disfigurement Act would be enforced. Though the Act was in force since 1991, it was being implemented for the first time in the election to the Urban Local Bodies.
