Woman killed, 12 injured in wall collapse

Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, Aug 1 (UNI) A 40-year-old woman was crushed to death and 12 others injured, with two of them in serious condition, when a portion of a wall under construction fell on them this afternoon.

Police said a group of labourers was engaged in the construction of a 20-feet wall that was weakened due to rain at a new industrial unit in the industrial estate near Mathur, when the mishap occurred.

Fire service personnel from Keeranur rushed to the spot and rescued the trapped labourers from the debris. The woman killed was identified as Periyammal (50).

The injured were admitted to the Government Headquarters Hospital, Tiruchirapalli, where the condition of two persons was said to be critical, police added.
