Vijaykant faults TN Govt on Titanium issue

Virudhachalam, Tamil Nadu, Aug 1 (UNI) Actor-politician Vijaykant today faulted the Tamil Nadu Government on the Titanium dioxide plant fiasco, opining that had the Government elicited the views of the people of the Tuticorin and Tirunelveli districts, where the project was to come up, before signing the MoU with the Tata group, it would not have snowballed into a controversy.

Talking to newspersons in his home constituency here, he said his Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) favoured setting up an industry in every district of the State. However, it should be done after getting feedback from the local people and inking the agreement in a proper way. The displaced people should be given job opportunities, housing and other facilities, he added.

Reiterating that the party would not have truck with any casteist, corrupt or communal party, Mr Vijaykant said his party would go alone in the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. ''We will neither forge alliance with any party, nor boycott polls. We are here to do good to the people and promote their welfare,'' he added.

Both the DMK and the AIADMK, which have repeatedly been at the helm of affairs in the state, have been indulging in corrupt practices only, he said, citing the demolition of illegal structures issue and the raids on professional educational institutions. Alleging that the law and order situation in the state had deteriorated, he said the various policies and programmes announced by the Government remained only on paper.

Mr Vijaykant welcomed his Kollywood colleague Sarath Kumar launching a new party in October and said anybody could take a plunge into politics to do good for the people.

Later, he handed over a memorandum to the Virudhachalam police station against the local police not accepting the barricades presented by him from his MLA funds to be erected on the highways to avoid road accidents.
