Urban Poverty Alleviation Cell to be set up at Ambala
Chandigarh, Aug 1 (UNI) The Haryana government has signed an agreement with Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation to establish Urban Poverty Alleviation and Livelihoods Cell at Ambala to implement various schemes for the benefit of urban poor.
An official spokesman said the objective of the cell was to find out needs and priorities of the urban poor, make provision for improved basic services and also ensure enhanced livelihood opportunities for them.
The cell also aimed at providing basic infrastructure facilities and capacity building of urban local bodies to effectively implement Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission.
He said the Central government would provide Rs 44 lakh to set up the cell. Out of this amount, Rs 22 lakh had already been received by the Haryana Slum Clearance Board.
The cell would be set up under UNDP project for National Strategy for Urban Poor. The schemes to be covered under the cell included those which were being implemented by both the Central and state governments.
