Two killed by local miscreants, police detain one

Howrah, Aug 1 (UNI) Two persons were killed and another was wounded when some local miscreants hurled bombs and shot at them in the district's Melatala slum area under Dasnagar police station today.

The incident occurred when a few men who were sitting idle in front of a house were attacked by a group of local miscreants who hurled bombs and shot at them, police here said.

One person died on spot while another succumbed to injuries in the hospital. Yet another person is still in the hospital in critical condition, sources in the hospital said.

Police source said the decesaed was a noted criminal from Hoogly district's Uttarpara area against whom there were innumerable police charges.

The owner of the house, in front of which they were sitting, has been detained by the police for questioning.
