TVS two wheeler sales in July at 105,366 units

Mumbai, Aug 1: TVS Motor Company reported total two wheeler sales of 105,366 units in July 2007 compared to 121,462 units in July 2006.

During the month the company's motorcycle sales recorded 44,392 units compared to 68,335 units recorded in July 2006.

The decline in motorcycle sales was mainly due to the industry slowdown witnessed by the motorcycle segment due to reduced availability of finance, increased cost and stringent norms being followed by retail financiers. Currently, more than 60 per cent of the purchases of the two wheelers are dependent on retail finance. Consequently, the company is consciously reducing the stock of motorcycles held by the trade to keep the stocks under control.

The Apache RTR was launched nationally and the response has been very encouraging. Apache RTR 160 packed with enormous 15.2 bhp, sports features that are normally seen in high-end international bikes and is the fastest motorcycle in India in its segment.

The company will soon launch two new motorcycles in the executive segment, which will redefine the segment by setting a new benchmark in the industry in terms of technology, performance and style. In addition, the company will also launch an upgrade of TVS StaR, which will provide superb value to its customers in the economy segment.

The launch of these products will be around the forthcoming festival season. With these three launches and the existing Apache RTR 160, the company will have significant presence in all the three key segments of motorcycles, namely the economy, executive and premium segments.

TVS Scooty sales clocked 23,841 units in July 2007 compared to 25,356 units recorded during the same period last year. TVS Scooty brand continues to be the market leader in the sub 100 cc Scooter segment.

On the export front, TVS Motor Company exported 11,395 units of two wheelers in July 2007.
