Top Banaskantha cop sent to jail
Palanpur, Aug 1 (UNI) A local court today deferred a bail application moved by the Deputy Superintendent of Police SC/ST Cell of Banaskantha till Monday and sent him to jail for making a false entry and destroying evidence last year.
SP S K Macvan surrendered before the Palanpur court today and was arrested.
According to a first information report (FIR) filed with Ambaji police, a 20-year-old girl was raped by Parthiji Pala of Malan village, 16 km from here, in March 2006. When the victim went to lodge an FIR, the police deliberately made misleading summary report with a view to save Pala. According to the report, the SP had blamed the woman of being loose character and involved in the flesh trade.
According to government councel Tarun Joshi, the Gujarat High Court had earlier rejected Macvan's anticipatory bail.
