SC directs petitioners org to implement Srikrishna Comm report
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) The Supreme Court today directed the Petitioner Action Committee for implementation of Srikrishna report to file affidavit within four weeks giving details of the cases in which the recommendations of Justice B M Srikrishna Committee report were made for action against Shiv Sena and BJP activists and leaders involved in riots which rocked Maharashtra following the Babri Masjid demolition.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan, Justice R V Raveendran and Justice Dalveer Bhandari issued the directions after counsel for the petitioner organisation informed the Court that the recommendations of Justice Srikrishna Committee were not being implemented and the report submitted by the retired judge of this Court has been gathering dust since 1998.
Justice Srikrishna who was Bombay High Court judge at that time was appointed to look into the role played by Shiv Sena and BJP activists during the riots.
Justice Srikrishna in his report indicted several Shiv Sena and BJP activists and leaders for their involvement in the riots.
No action was taken on the report as there was Shiv Sena-BJP government in Maharastra at the time of riots. The riots were sparked off by the Babri demolition and were followed by the 1993 serial bomb blasts that rocked Mumbai in which over 200 lives were lost.
