M'shtra: Rains damage Rs 21.54 cr worth crops

Kolhapur, Aug 01: An estimated Rs 21.54 crore worth crops have been damaged due to floods and rains in the last two months in this district.

District Acting Collector D D Valvi told reporters here today that the district administration completed the 'panchanamas' of various crops damaged on 9,231 hectares of land during June-July rains.

A total of 2,576 hectare paddy crops, 2,368 hectare sugarcane crops, about 1,612 hectare soyabean, 1,082 hectare groundnut were the major crops damaged.

He said those farmers whose crops had been damaged in the rains will get compensation as per the State government's norms.

He said this year's damage to crops has been lesser compared to last year's damage on 33,000 hectare land causing losses of over 100 crore.

A total of 625 houses were partially damaged in past two months rains and Rs 10.73 lakh have been disbursed as compensation to the affected, he said.

As much as Rs six lakh has been disbursed to the kin of eight people of the ten who died in rain-related incidents in Kolhapur, he added.
