Kishanganj, Aug 1 (UNI) Recognising the growing importance of several North Bihar districts, the Railway Ministry has recently undertaken a number of steps to improve the infrastructural facilities at a cost of nearly Rs 100 crore.

This was informed here today by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Consumer Affairs and local RJD MP Taslimusddin.

Speaking to newsmen, he said as the first step the Railway Board had decided to convert the weekly "Garib Nawaz Express" from here to Ajmeer into a thrice a week train following increase in the number of passengers during the past few years.

The new service would reduce the inconvenience of the passengers, the Union Minister said.

Referring to other initiatives taken by Railway Minister Lalu Prasad to improve the infrastructural facilities in this north Bihar district bordering West Bengal, Mr Taslimuddin said plans were afoot to set up a well-equipped motel.

Besides, a local railway hospital would be converted into a 100-bed referrel hospital and a cold storage established near the Kishanganj station for the export of green and perishable vegetables and fruits, he added.

He said the construction of two railway overbridges at Ruidhasha and on the outskirts of Kishanganj town, each costing Rs 40 crore, would start after August 15 as all necessary clearances from the local authorities had already been received.

Moreover, construction of a halt station near Tauheed at an additional cost of Rs seven crore would commence soon, the Union Minister informed.
