Police colluded with rioteers: JSM

Ahmedabad, Aug 1 (UNI) Adv Mukul Sinha of the Jan Sangharsh Manch (JSM), a rights body representing the 2002 Post-Godhra riot victims, today made a submission before the Nanavati-Shah Commission to highlight some rioting incidents in Ahmedabad city that were indicative of a clear collusion between local police and the rioteers.

Adv Sinha, in his brief submission to the Commission, said that to ascertain the conduct and the role of the policemen in relation to the events, the JSM has analyzed the mobile phone calls of certain police officers of Sector-1 and Sector-2 in Ahmedabad city.

He also told the commission that from the depositions of the witnesses, wireless messages and call records of the mobile phones, it has become apparent that top police officers were directly colluding with political bosses and rioteers. He said that as per the data available, police inspectors of Ellisbridge and Satellite police stations appear to have given a free hand to the rioteers.

Adv Sinha also said the DCPs V M Parghi and Shivanand Jha appear to have made efforts to reach the places of arson but late possibily because their subordinates were suppressing information of mob violence, as per the mobile phone data of these officers available with the JSM.

The Commission had fixed for today a final hearing for those, who were affected during the riots from Vejalpur, Ellisbridge, Satellite, Navrangpura, Narayanpura and Ghatlodia areas of Ahmedabad city. However, no one turned up for voicing their grievances.

The Commission has fixed August 10 as the date for hearing the grievances of affected persons from Naroda and Meghaninagar areas who had not been heard earlier.
