Bhopal, Aug 1 (UNI) The Chief Municipal Officer of Chhindwara district's Chaurai Town Panchayat has been suspended for disobeying a government directive to have an FIR registered against guilty officials, the Madhya Pradesh government informed the Assembly today.

Replying to supplementaries by Mr Ramesh Dubey (BJP), Urban Administration and Development Minister Jayant Malaiya said, ''irregularities were observed from the beginning vis-a-vis construction of shops under a government scheme. Employees Ramesh Vishwakarma and Vishnu Yadav were suspended earlier. The CMO was directed to have an FIR registered.'' A comprehensive inquiry was underway and the shops would be freed of encroachment.

Regarding allocation of land by the Indore Development Authority to the Guruji Sewa Nyas, the Minister said that the entire process was in conformity to rules. However, Mr Sajjan Singh Verma (Cong) -- who raised the matter -- alleged that the institute unduly benefited.

Mr Lakshman Singh Gaud (BJP) raised the alleged unauthorised sale of land reserved for schools and gardens in colonies.

''If such cases come to light, they will be investigated. The government will ensure that colonisers concerned complete construction of school buildings within the time limit. Of 64 local colonies, such land is lying vacant in 24,'' said Mr Malaiya while assuring that alleged irregularities in approval of tenders by Raisen district's Udaipura Town Panchayat would be probed within a fortnight.
