Naxalites make foray into Chambal

Bhopal, Aug 1 (UNI) About 300 naxalites have forayed into the Madhya Pradesh's Chambal ravines, where dacoits are already active.

This startling revelation was made by senior Congress member Dr Govind Singh in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today.

However, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra, deputing for Home Minister, said naxalite activities in Chambal valley had not yet come to the government's notice, though the ultras were active in the state's Balaghat, Mandla, Dindori and Sidhi districts.

He also assured to fill up vacancies against sanctioned posts of police personnel in the Chambal region.

Dr Singh, in his notice, said about 300 naxalites, after getting training in Bihar, had intruded into the Chambal ravines and were in regular contact with criminal elements. People were terrorised with the entry of naxalites in the dacoit-infested Bhind district and the armed ultras in army uniform were indulging in extortion. He alleged that police had failed to check the activities of naxalites.
