MCD panel clears proposal to remove male staff from girls' schools
New Delhi, Aug 1 (UNI) After several complaints of harassment of girls by male teachers, the MCD today cleared the proposal to remove male staff, including teachers, from all its girls schools.
The proposal, tabled by Congress member Jai Kishan Sharma, was cleared by the MCD standing committee after the members unanimously supported it.
The House demanded that the proposal be implemented within a month's time, officials said.
Last week, five girl students of the Mongolpuri MCD school charged their male teacher with molestation. Yesterday, the Corporation suspended Ram Rattan with immediate effect and initiated disciplinary action him.
The Education department investigated into the case and found that the teacher used to give physical punishments to the students.
MCD's male teachers had earlier protested a policy floated by the department to remove them from the corporation's 597 girls' schools.
Of the 1,811 schools run by the civic body, there are about 7,000 odd male teachers as opposed to over 10,000 female teachers.
There are over 9 lakh students studying in municipal schools currently and the MCD has only 18,000 teachers.
