Mayawati expresses grief over boat tragedy

Lucknow, Aug 1 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati has expressed profound grief over the deaths in the boat tragedy in Maharajganj district today.

The CM has directed economic assistance of Rs 1.5 lakh be paid to the dependents of each of the victims.

Ms Mayawati also directed the district administration to carry out relief and rescue operations on war-footing, besides, keeping strict vigil in other flood affected areas.

She has conveyed her deep sympathies and heartfelt condolence to bereaved families and prayed for peace to the departed souls.

Several persons were crossing the river on a boat at Harakpur village in Paniyara block in Maharajganj district, when the boat capsized due to overloading.
