Panaji, Aug 1: Scores of mechanised boats ventured into the sea today, after the 45-day ban on marine fishing ended last midnight: The ban was imposed in Goa and other maritime states to help rejuvenate the fish resources in the mating monsoon season. The traditional boats were however, allowed to fish.

The jetties were filled with activity from early this morning with the fishermen loading their trawlers and boats with the fishing nets before trying their luck for a good catch.

Special masses were held at different jetties including Betul, Baradi and Cutbona even as thousands of labour force hired from different states including neighbouring Kerala, Karnataka besides Jharkhand and Bihar joined duty.

The boat owners, regretted that the authorities had failed to remove silt at different jetties during the ban period to facilitate easy movement of the boats and trawlers.
