Lovers commit suicide in Punjab

Fatehgarh Sahib, Aug 1 (UNI) Two young lovers allegedly committed suicide by consuming some poisonous substance at the bus stand in Mandi Gobindgarh last night, police today stated.

According to police sources, after consuming the substance, the couple started vomitting. They were immediately rushed to hospital by commuters standing at the bus stand.

Despite the best efforts of the doctors both died in hospital.

They were identified as Shimpi(22), a resident of Khanna while the boy was Sunny Singh, a resident of Raghomajra in Patiala district.

The suicide note recovered from them stated that they were ending their lives as their parents were opposed to their marriage. A post mortem was conducted at the Civil Hospital, Mandi Gobindgarh and after the normal police proceedings under section 174 of CrPC Act, the bodies were handed over to the respective parents.
