Kolhapur BJP to observe 'Sangharsh' week from tomorrow

Kolhapur, Aug 1 (UNI) The Kolhapur unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party proposes to observe a ''Sangharsh'' week starting tomorrow to protest the ''state government's failure to address the problems faced by people''.

Kolhapur district BJP chief Prof Vijay Desai told reporters here today that the party will organise ''dharnas'', ''morchas'', ''gheraos'', hunger strike, demonstrations and ''rasta roko'' at various places in the district during the week.

The party has demanded, among other things, the immediate release of a second instalment to sugarcane farmers, a hike in milk rates for the benefit of supplying farmers, and better facilities in civil hospitals. The party will also highlight the power shortage problem, irregularities in the distribution of cooking gas cylinders, and the poor quality of foodgrains available on ration cards.

The week-long agitation is a prelude to the state-wide agitation called by the party on August nine, he added.
