Heavy rains in Rayalaseema region in AP

Hyderabad, Aug 1 (UNI) Rayalaseema region received heavy rains as South West monsoon remained vigorous over the area.

Kurnool district authorities said the Kundu and Bavanasi rivers were overflowing following which several villages were submerged. In Nandyaltown, several streets and low lying areas were also submerged. Vehicular traffic between Pamulapadu and Iska was disrupted duo to heavy down pour.

Relief camps were opened in Nandyal town and people in the submerged areas were being shifted.

The following stations recorded heavy rainfall in cm; Atmakur (Kurnool dist) 11 , Nandyal nine, Kalwakurthy (Mahabubnagar dist), Srisailam (Kurnool dist) eight each, Bhimavaram (West Godavari dist), Yerragondapalem (Prakasam dist) seven each.
