Fever claims 327 lives, Govt to provide assistance

Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 1 (UNI) Disclosing that 327 people died of viral fever in Kerala, State Health Minister P K Sreemathy today said the government would provide financial assistance to the families of those died due to the fever.

Stating that the Health Department had taken all the steps to prevent the spread of the disease, she said the officials in the Central Health Ministry, who visited the state thrice and the Union Health Minister and Health Secretary also appreciated the governments' effort in this regard.

Since mosquito eradication was the only solution to keep away all kinds of viral fever, including Chikungunya, the government was taking all preventive measures in this regard, a release said here.

Alleging that during the past few years preventive measures in checking the outbreak of epidemics was not effective, Ms Sreemathy said the government was trying to constitute an Epidemic Control Cell.
