Dutt's fans in Jammu pray for his early release

Jammu, Aug 1 (UNI) Fans of Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt, who was yesterday handed six-year rigorous imprisonment by the TADA Court in Mumbai for illegally possessing destructive weapons, today performed 'yagna' and prayed for his early release from jail.

Several fans of the Bollywood star under the banner of cultural-social organisation 'the Nami Dogri Sanstha' organised 'yagnas' at Bakshi Nagar and prayed that his bail plea be accepted in the Supreme Court.

Rahul Mahajan, a Sanjay Dutt's fan, referring to the movie 'Lage Raho Munna Bhai, said Munnabhai has already suffered a lot and should therefore be freed on humanitarian grounds.

''Sanjay Dutt deserves leniency. The world has witnessed how Murali Prasad Sharma's 'Gandhigiri' transformed things and diverted the youth energy towards peace rather than violence,'' he said.

Jammu has a long association with the Dutt family.

Sanjay Dutt's actor-politician father Sunil Dutt culminated his peace journey in this city, while his sister Priya Dutt paid a visit to all the shrines in Jammu during her trip last year.

Sanjay Dutt had visited the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine, on two occasions, once when he was released after spending 16 months in prison and again last year.

''We hope our prayers are answered,'' said Sumriti Sharma, another Sanjay Dutt's fan.
