CSR to educate 1,000 children every year

Chennai, Aug 1 (UNI) Shriram Social Welfare Trust and Tamil Maiyam today jointly announced launch of 'Give Life', a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) portfolio management initiative, to educate 1,000 poor children every year.

The first CSR portfolio to be managed by Give Life would be TVH-True Value homes, a city based construction company, Trust Managing Trustee Akhila Srinivasan and Tamil Maiyam Managing Trustee Fr Jegath Gaspar, the visionaries behind the project, said.

Addressing a press conference here, they said, ''Targeting corporates with a strong CSR philosophy, Give Life will streamline projects aimed at long-term social change. The aim of the project was to touch lives of 25,000 children by the year 2010.'' The primary focus would be on supporting poor children in their education, providing them with tuition fee, uniform, books, weekend formation camps, which would impart knowledge on personality development, theatre, soft skills training and general career guidance, they said.

The project Give Life would also endeavour to motivate and train teachers to be committed agents of community building, they added.
