Create infrastructure in newly created district in J

Srinagar, Aug 1 (UNI) Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has asked district development commissioners of newly created districts to take urgent measures for creation of infrastructure with a mechanism to monitor progress on a weekly basis.

Chief Minister was reviewing the pace of progress on the construction of office complexes for the eight newly created districts in Jammu and Kashmir.

The state government, it may be recalled, in a revolutionary measure created new districts of Bandipora, Shopian, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Ramban, Kishtwar, Reasi and Samba in October last year.

Besides, three sub-divisions and 12 tehsils were also carved out.

At a high level meeting called by him last evening, Mr Azad asked District Development Commissioners (DDCs) of these districts to immediately come up with design and requirement of office accommodation for approval to start construction for speedy completion.

He said given the climatic difference, separate designs should be prepared for the office complexes for Kashmir and Jammu divisions.

Chief Minister said Rs 5 crore each have been provided to the DDCs of the newly created districts this year for the construction of office complexes.

He asked the Chief Secretary to priortise posting of staff for urgent public utility offices in the new districts to make these functional at the earliest.

In case of other departments, the district officers of the erstwhile undivided districts would be available for two days in a week.

If need be, powers of district level officers should be given to next available senior officers of the concerned departments in the new districts as an immediate measure, till the permanent arrangement is made, he suggested.
