Crack down on illegal clinics and spurious drug traders
Bhubaneswar, Aug 01 (UNI) Concerned over the proliferation of fake drugs and female foeticide in the state, the Orissa government continued its action against the traders of spurious drugs an illegal Nursing homes in the state.
Official sources said so far 42 chemist shops had been closed temporarily and 13 others sealed. Nearly 1080 samples of medicines were collected from 297 units spread over 17 districts.
The government swung into action after unearthing a fake medicine manufacturing unit at Kantabanjhi in Bolangir district and subsequent dumping of spurious medicines by the traders in some districts recently.
The government had already ordered a crime branch inquiry into the incident, while the Opposition political parties had been demanding resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and Health Minister D.Majhi and a CBI inquiry into the incident.
Crime branch inquiry had also been ordered into the female foeticide after the detection several foetuses in an abandoned well in Nayagarh recently.
The crack down on nursing homes continued and so far the government had already raided 277 nursing homes, 270 ultra sound clinics and 101 MTP centres.
Out of the total nursing homes raided 78 were found unregistered.
The government had already sealed 35 and instructed 18 others to close down till they registered their units.
Similarly 41 ultrasound clinics and 25 MTP were sealed by the government till date on the ground of various irregularities, the sources said.
Three doctors were arrested in connection with the incident.
