Bhubaneswar, Aug 1 (UNI) The CPI, Orissa unit, will launch a week-long state-wide civil disobedience movement to press for a CBI inquiry into the alleged wide scale circulation of fake drugs and discovery of huge number of female foeticides in the state.

CPI state secretary Dibakar Naik today said they would start the movement from August 3 to 9 and observe the week as a 'black week'.

The CPI had demanded the resignation of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for "protecting" the illegal manufacturers and traders of spurious drugs.

The decision to observe 'black week' was taken at the three-day working committee meeting and state council convention of the party, which concluded here yesterday.

A resolution passed at the meeting alleged the illegal drug trade was going on over the years with full knowledge of the government machinery.

The party held the Chief Minister responsible for fake drug trade and demanded his resignation.

Privatisation of the health care system had resulted in mushrooming of nursing homes in the state.

The Crime branch inquiry, ordered into both the incidents, was a ploy to cover up the facts, the resolution said and demanded a CBI inquiry into it.

In another resolution the party resolved to oppose the state government's recommendation to the Centre to change the status of 3100 hectares of land in Dhinkia-Nuagaon area of Jagatsinghpur district to facilitate the South Korean Steel major to set up its 12 million tonne steel plant and urged the Centre not to change the status of the land.
