CMs of Congress-ruled NE states to meet in Meghalaya

Shillong, Aug 1 (UNI) The Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled North Eastern states would meet here on August 3 to discuss poll strategies and over-all law and order situation in the region.

Meghalaya, Tripura and Nagaland are scheduled to go for Assembly elections early next year.

Mizoram is likely to go for polls in November this year.

Union Labour Minister and AICC General Secretary in-charge North East Oscar Fernandes, Asom Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, his Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya counterparts Okram Ibobi Singh, Dorjee Khandu and D D Lapang repectively are expected here. Besides, Congress state Presidents and CLP leaders will also attend the meet.

Mr Lapang, who is also the Chairman of North East Congress Co-ordination Committee (NECCC), said the meeting will adopt a strategy to win the Assembly elections in the four Northeastern states. He said the meeting will also take stock of the over all law and order situation in the region.

The Chief Minister also said that he had conveyed the matter related to NECCC meeting to AICC President Sonia Gandhi.
