Cargo flight to run three NE states from August 7

Agartala, Aug 1 (UNI) Airport Authority of India (AAI) has finalised the schedules of cargo plane to carry postal articles of northeast to Kolkata and elsewhere in the country for quick delivery.

AAI sources here today said that a 737 aircraft of Alliance Air, a subsidiary of Indian, exclusively meant for carrying postal articles will fly between Tripura, Asom and Manipur from August 7.

According to schedules, the cargo flight would fly Agartala from Kolkata via Guwahati and Imphal with postal materials.

Sources said, about 2-3 MT postal consignments would be coming Agartala by this flight and more one metric ton letters and parcels would be dispatched from here to Kolkata for rest of the world every day.

The Department of Posts has leased a cargo aircraft to deliver letters, speed posts and other items to give a boost to its business in northeastern states.

''The plane will be put on dedicated service of the Department to speed up delivery of letters, speed posts and other items,'' said the postal officials here adding that the department to operate the aircraft in daytime initially in three states where business is comparatively high in the region while cargo service would also be resumed in three other metros - Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
