Assembly debates the loot of 140 sheep

Bhopal, Aug 1 (UNI) Among a slew of issues, the Madhya Pradesh Assembly today debated the loot of 140 sheep in Morena district.

The issue was raised by Mr Gajraj Singh Sikarwar (BJP) through a call attention notice. He said the incident, which took place in the forest near Kiraich-ka-pura village, instilled fear among the villagers as the police could not nab the offenders.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra, deputing for Home Minister, said aherd of 140 sheep being tended in the forest was looted by a group of armed people after attacking its owner Shankar Singh Kushwaha on July 17.

The assailants took the sheeps to an abandoned building in Dagariapura village and kept them in a small room after closing the door with bricks. On a tip-off, police raided the building next day and recovered only 23 sheep alive, while 74 were found dead.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, who interevened, said though there was no provision for granting compensation for looted cattle, the government would consider giving some relief to the affected farmer.
