Al Gore to receive RSGDAC award in Meghalaya
Shillong, Aug 1 (UNI) Former US vice-president Al Gore will be awarded the first Rajya Sabha Grassroots Democracy Advisory Council (RSGDAC) global award in Meghalaya for promoting a worldwide awareness on global warming.
Gore will be awarded for his hard-hitting environmental documentary-' An Inconvenient Truth,' which won three Academy Awards.
The award will be handed to Gore at the second People's Parliament (Dorbar Ri) to be held on October 6, in front of the ancient sacred forest at Mawphlang village, which has been preserved untouched for over 700 years.
''We have decided to award Gore for his untiring efforts in promoting a worldwide awareness on global warming,'' Meghalaya Rajya Sabha member Robert Kharshiing told UNI here today.
'' What will be unique about this global award is that it will be presented in the Khasi Hills lying at the foothills of the Himalayas, in front of over three hundred thousand people, in a People's Parliament and will include all communities irrespective of religions and villages, Mr Kharshiing said, who is also a RSGDAC member.
''We are on the process to inform Gore about the RSGDAC global award,'' the tribal political leader said.
RSGDAC, is an organisation comprised of tribal Khasi, Jaintia and Garo traditional institutions heads in Meghalaya.
