35 feared drowned in flood hit Maharajganj in UP

Lucknow, Aug 1: In a major tragedy, at least 35 people were feared drowned when a country boat capsized mid-stream in the overflowing Rohin river in the flood affected Maharajganj district today.

Police sources at the state headquarters here said 28 bodies had been recovered so far while seven people were still missing.

There were about 90 people on board the ill-fated boat when it overturned due to overloading.

The accident occurred near Harakpur village under the Paniyara police station in the district.

Some 55 people had been rescued by the PAC divers engaged in the flood relief work and two PAC motor boats had been pressed into service to trace the other missing.

Senior police and civil officials of the districts were camping on the spot to supervise rescue operations.
