Hyderabad, Aug 1 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha today alleged that the reservation quota of 33 per cent for women candidates was not being followed during the ongoing admission to engineering colleges in the State.

In a letter to the Director of Technical Education Department, BJP Mahila Morcha President T Vijaya Lakshmi said that according to rules, the reservation policy would not be applicable to women candidates selected on merit in each category even if it exceeded 33 per cent. But these rules were being flouted, she added.

Giving an example, she pointed out that while giving admission for CSE course in JNTUC,a woman candidate of 67th rank was filled under female category even though she had been selected on merit.

This would be a loss to the female candidates eligible for 33 per cent reservation.

She requested the Director to give necessary instructions to the officials concerned to follow the guidelines issued by the Government and conduct separate counselling for admission of women candidates under 33 per cent category.
