Chennai, July 31 (UNI) Water supply from Veeranam lake in Cuddalore district to the city has resumed.

Metrowater officials here today said with the present availability of water, the supply of water would be comfortable in the coming months.

Currently, Chennai was being supplied with 645 million litres of water (MLD) everday through pipelines and tankers.

About 180 MLD of water from Veeranam lake was treated and transferred to Porur water distribution station before being supplied to various parts of the city yesterday, the officials said.

The water level at Veeranam lake had surged to 43.5 feet, with an inflow of 1,800 cubic feet per second. This enabled water to be extracted from the lake for the city's needs, the officials added.

With a substantial storage, Chembarambakkam lake also contributed about 130-140 MLD of water, they said.
