Water precipitation during monsoon season estimated at 3000 BCM
New Delhi, July 31 (UNI) The annual precipitation including snowfall, which is the main source of water in the country, is estimated to be of the order of 4000 Billion Cubic Meters (BCM).
According to official sources, the estimated precipitation during the monsoon season, June to September, is of the order of 3000 BCM. The average availability of water in the country is assessed at 1869 BCM, Out of which, the utilisable water resources are 1123 BCM, which includes 690 BCM of surface water and 433 BCM of replenishable ground water.
A total storage capacity of 212.78 BCM has been created in the country through major and medium projects. The projects under construction will contribute to an additional 76.26 BCM, while the contribution expected from projects under consideration is 107.54 BCM.
Central Water Commission (CWC) is monitoring the storage position of 76 important reservoirs spread all over the country. The total Storage capacity at Full Reservoir Level (FRL) in these reservoirs is 133.021 BCM. The total availability of water in 76 major reservoirs was 109.77 BCM at the end of the monsoon season in 2005 against 85.12 BCM at the end of the monsoon last year, the sources added.
