Lucknow, July 31 (UNI) At least 20 districts of Uttar Pradesh are inundated due to incessant rainfall in the hilly regions of Nepal.

Indo-Nepal border districts Maharajganj, Bahraich, Siddharthnagar, Basti and Balrampur are under grim situation of flood.

In the last 24 hours, 17 people had died due to flood, taking the death toll to 58.

Traffic had been stranded between Gorakhpur and Nepal due to water-logging on Nautnava-Gorakhpur National Highway in Maharajganj.

Swelling of river Ghaghra at Basti had put the administration in tizzy, as the Railway bridge at Ghaghra ghat of Barabanki had posed threat due to breach in the dam.

Relief work is on at the flood affected villages with the help of PAC and locals.

Almost 700 villages had been inundated with flood water at Barabanki, Gonda, Deoria, Lakhimpur Kheri, Basti, Siddharthnagar and Sant Kabirnagar.

Rapti, Sharda, Ghaghra and Kuano rivers were flowing above the danger mark at several places, however Ganga, Yammuna, Ramganga, Betawa, Sharda, Ghaghra, Gomti and Gadak rivers are below the red mark though water level is increasing at fast pace.
