Two soldiers, three infiltrators killed in Kashmir

Srinagar, July 31 (UNI) A senior Army officer and a soldier and three Pakistan infiltrators were killed in a fierce encounter in Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

A defence ministry spokesman confirming the incident said the operation was still going on.

He said two soldiers and three to four militants have been killed and further details are awaited.

Official sources said troops guarding the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector noticed a group of militants sneaking into this side from Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (POK) early this morning.

When challenged and asked to surrender, the militants opened fire. The troops returned the fire and in the ensuing encounter two soldiers, including a senior officer, were killed.

The sources said three infiltrators were also killed.
